About Ed

Ed is the Chief Executive Officer of The Baton Rouge Clinic, and has served in this capacity for over thirty-six years. 

During his 55 years of healthcare administration, he has worked in both the investor-owned hospital sector as well as the not-for-profit hospital sector. He has a background in comprehensive health planning, mental health administration, long term care administration, hospital administration, outpatient surgery center administration, health plan administration and medical group management. 

Prior to joining the Clinic, he worked for over nine years with the General Health System.  His last position with GHS was as Chief Operating Officer of the system, where he was responsible for its acute care hospitals, long term care facilities, mental health hospitals and its regional health plan. 

He has a B.A. from L.S.U.; and a M.P.H. and M.B.A. from Tulane University.  He is a Certified Health Care Executive and a Certified Medical Practice Executive, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. During his tenure with The Baton Rouge Clinic, the clinic has been selected by the Medical Group Management Association as a ‘Better Performing Practice’ since 1998, and was named a ‘Distinguished Practice’ in 2008. In 2001, Mr. Silvey was selected ‘Medical Practice Executive of the Year’ by the M.G.M.A. and the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and in October of 2013, he was awarded the Harry Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award by the American College of Medical Practice Executives.  He also was Chairman for three years of the MGMA Government Affairs Committee in Washington, D.C. during the debate on healthcare reform.  During his career, he has served on numerous Boards and has been a guest speaker at several universities as well as a national speaker on physician recruitment and retention.
